In order to understand multiple myeloma prognosis,we first need to understand what happens in multiple Myeloma. In cancer, there is uncontrolled production of cells inside the body and since multiple myeloma is related to the plasma cells, there is uncontrolled production of plasma cells inside the bone marrow. In normal circumstance the content of plasma cells in the bone marrow is less than 5% but when a person is suffering from multiple myeloma, this content increases to 10% or more. Multiple myeloma is more dangerous than other types of cancer because in multiple myeloma the cancer can spread to the other parts of the body through the blood vessels. If the disease is detected after multiple organs are affected then the cure becomes much more complicated.
Multiple myeloma affects various parts of the body, hence it is not easy to set a standard set of symptoms to identify multiple myeloma. but some of the most common ones are increased calcium level, pain in the bones, physical weakness. It also affects the vision.
Multiple Myeloma Prognosis
Prognosis is the process of determining the behavior of the disease to calculate the assumed lifespan of a person. To perform the prognosis, a large part of the population having that particular medical condition is sampled and prognosis results are calculated. As for multiple myeloma prognosis,it is calculated that younger people have a more stronger chance of fighting the disease and hence have a longer lifespan. Also younger people are much less prone to other old age diseases.
A patient in stage 1 of multiple myeloma has on an average 64 months of lifespan left, similarly in stage 2 has 44 months left and in stage 3, 30 months of lifespan.
But you need to understand these are just assumptions and the lifespan greatly increases with medical advancements. A human mind can do amazing things if you allow it too,so take these as just assumptions, not as a rule.
